| Class Descriptions: Creative Movement I and II This is a 45 minute dance class. It includes both boys and girls of ages 3, 4 and 5 years old. The class work is designed to allow for the use of imagination and creativity. It is also designed to teach the dancers to move efficiently and in an organized manor within the group. Without stifling individual creativity, this class teaches the child how to move within the group as an integral part of the group. Creative Movement incorporates floor stretches and movement with music as a part of the warm-up and dance combined with music in the center and across the floor. It builds upon the basic movements of ballet and the basic rhythms of tap. As well as valuable isolated movement experience, creative movement also prepares the child to progress on to ballet and tap. This is a wonderful first dance class for all children. The movement and co-ordination as well as learning concepts (such as counting, right and left, color identification, etc.) are an excellent and fun way to build cognitive and physical skills. Creative Movement students will perform in the annual recital. Creative Movement I is for 3 and young 4 year olds that have not danced before. Creative Movement II is for 4 and 5 year olds . Creative Movement I is NOT a prerequisite. Kinderdance This is a 60 minute dance class consisting of 30 minutes of ballet followed by 30 minutes of tap. The class format is designed for five and six year olds who are at least enrolled in Kindergarten. The ballet portion of class will include a floor warm-up followed by a ballet barre. The stretches will be a continuation of the creative movement exercises in the 3 and 4 year old classes. The barre will begin with very basic movements and they will lay the foundation for the center work. At the barre and in the center the children will learn the movement as well as the correct terminology. Center work will incorporate ballet movement with music. A series of short dances or combinations will be taught and will change and progress in difficulty as the year progresses. Basic ballet traveling movements will also be taught and will increase in difficulty. The tap portion of class will also cover a tap barre, center combinations and locomotor movement across the floor. The same basic format as described for ballet will be followed, including being taught the correct tap terms. These students will perform in the annual recital. Ballet Tap Jazz Combo Combination classes are one and one half hours long and include ballet, tap and jazz technique. This class is for 6 to 9 year olds. These students will perform two to three dances in the annual recital. The number of dances is at the teacher’s discretion based on the progression of the class. Teen Tap and Jazz These classes are designed for the dancer aged 11 and up. Level placement is at the discretion of the teacher. If you are unsure of what level your child should be in please see the front desk. Previous dance experience is not required. These students will perform in the annual recital. |
